Carvelo2go The World’s first public eCargo-Bikesharing
During winter 2016 the Mobility Academy launched the world’s first electric Cargo-Bikesharing in Bern and Basle. Around 40 bikes in both cities are hosted by local shops, such as bakeries, pharmacies, book-shops or bars. More than 1000 users have already registered and can now reserve a bike on www.carvelo2go.ch. By involving local shops as hosts, where users pick up the battery and key, carvelo2go provides easy access without any investments into charging-stations. Users pay in advance at the shop and return bike, battery and key once the trip is made. Carvelo2go charges CHF 5 for the first and CHF 2 for any additional hour.
As spring arrives, usage is rocketing and carvelo2go is preparing for expansion to 4 more cities during the summer months. “We have been much inspired by the enthusiastic start-ups that are participating in our annual World Collaborative Mobility Congress (wocomoco). Hence, we decided to come up with our own collaborative mobility service. Now carvelo2go is loved by our hosts, who are using them for their own cargo-trips and, our fleet-partners who get to brand the bikes, our users who enjoy riding with their kids and the city-politicians who welcome this new safe, sustainable and neighbourhood-based transport offer”, says Jörg Beckmann, Director of the Mobility Academy.
